It'll be two weeks before Wellington's Westpac Stadium can reopen after Monday's 7.5 magnitude earthquake burst water pipes, cracked concrete, broke windows and caused liquefaction on the stadium ring road.
RNZ reports engineers have assessed the stadium and cleared it of any major structural damage.
But the internal concourse and seating bowl will remain closed until repairs have been completed, which is expected to take two weeks.
The Wellington Phoenix were due to play Melbourne Victory in their A-League football match at the stadium on Saturday night, but that has now been postponed.
Westpac stadium chief executive Shane Harmon said public safety was the stadium's top priority.
"We are disappointed to have to reschedule a sporting event for the first time in the Stadium's history, however there is simply not enough time to complete the repairs required," he said.
"Our engineers have said that the building has performed as expected. The damage is similar in nature to that incurred during the July 2013 earthquake and we're confident that it can be repaired."
Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome said they're now working with the stadium, Melbourne Victory and Football Federation of Australia to find an alternative.
A venue nor date has not been decided, but all fans who've purchased tickets to this Saturday's game can claim a full refund or exchange their ticket for the re-scheduled match at no cost.
Westpac Stadium's offices and the ground level of the public car park are open.
