US sending big team to Pacific Islands Forum

The United States federal government is sending a high-level delegation to the Pacific Islands Forum's Post Forum Dialogue in Papua New Guinea next week.

It will be headed by Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Heather Higginbottom, and the State Department says the visit aims to emphasize the depth and breadth of US engagement with the Pacific.

The U.S. delegation will also include senior officials from the United States Pacific Command, the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Agency for International Development.

The US Government says it wants to demonstrate its commitment to the region, and to issues that are important to the Pacific, such as climate change, renewable energy, women's empowerment, sustainable development, and health.
