Taylor Swift's new album Lover leaks a day early

When it comes to album releases, Taylor Swift just can't seem to catch a break.

The pop stars two previous albums, Reputation and 1989, were both leaked online before their official release dates.

And now, the same thing has happened to Swift's brand new album, Lover.

Set to be released at midnight (US EST) on August 23 (4pm in NZ), the album's 18 tracks were uploaded a day early, causing a bit of an uproar among her fans, aka Swifties.

Many were unimpressed by the leak, taking to social media to call on other fans not to share any links or spoilers ahead of the planned release time.

"It's not fair for Taylor Swift or her team. Let's respect her own work and in few hours we can hear all her work," posted one fan.

On the plus side, other Swifties - who clearly weren't bothered by the breach - raved about Lover, calling it Swift's best album yet.

"Fairly certain it is not only Taylor's best album, but one of the best pop albums of the year," gushed one fan.

The album likely has special meaning for Swift, as it will be the first she officially owns, after music mogul Scooter Braun took over her former company - and the rights to earlier hits.

Swift recently told Vogue magazine that Lover "feels like a new beginning".
