The event, hosted at the Port Moresby Naval Base, saw Australia dominate both the men’s and women’s category.
The men’s division was the first to take to the Port Moresby waters at 9am today.
Only four countries had registered for the men’s event, and they are: Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Solomon Islands.
Australia’s 21-year-old athlete, Ethan Owens, was the first of the 7 swimmers to complete the 8 laps, clocking 1 hour, 42 minutes and 28 seconds.
Owens’ counterpart, Lachlan Colquhoun (Ko-hun) finished his race less than 20 minutes later, followed closely by New Zealand’s David Boles.
In the women’s division, Australia’s Phoebe Hines finished ahead of the other 5 swimmers with a timing of 2 hours, 8 minutes and 18 seconds.
Following closely behind was Ebony Blackstone, also from Australia, with a time of 2:09.39.
Just like in the men’s division, New Zealand, represented by Stefannie Gillespie, finished third.
The 12th Oceania Swimming Championships started on Monday and will end this evening.
