Over 1800 general volunteers for Van2017 ready for the job

The closer the Opening Ceremony gets, the more the Spirit of the Games is felt.

With the Pacific Mini Games just around the corner, final touches are being put to facilities, programs, and activities.

Games volunteers, who will be on the front line as Ambassadors for Van2017, as well as for their nation, have completed several training sessions conducted by the Van2017 Volunteer Department, to get ready to roll into action in several upcoming events before the Games starts.

On November 19, 20 and 21, Van2017 will finally distribute accreditation to all of its general volunteers, who have indicated that they are committed volunteers to the Games, through UDAC Day.

Uniform Distribution and Accreditation (UDAC) will be a time when all registered volunteers who have attended trainings in respective functional areas such as Venues, Venue Games and Services, Volunteers, Sports, Medical, Transport, VIP /Protocol/Sponsors activation and Ticketing, Ceremonies, Technology and Broadcasting, Villages, Catering, and Security, will collect their uniforms and their accreditation badges, that will allow them to get access to venues and villages to do their jobs.

Henry Bill, Venue Manager at Port Vila International School, said the accreditation badge is like a passport to give volunteers access to the venues.

“To get this badge, you should be registered as a volunteer for the Games and on this badge, you will have your photo, your name, and the venue or location to which you have been assigned,” he said.

“Your uniform is also very important – if you do not wear your uniform, or you show up for your shift without a uniform, you will not be authorized, and we will send you back home to get your uniform. Having your uniform is identification already in any Games venues or villages, to assist anyone who needs direction or help during the Games.

“UDAC will take place during three consecutive days at the Convention Centre: on November 19, Van2017 will be doing the distribution from 12-6p.m.; on November 20 and 21, distribution will go from 3-7p.m.

“If you are one of the volunteers who have been contacted and attended the trainings, you have to come to UDAC on any of these three allocated dates and times proposed by the Volunteer Department.”
