QLD waiting to see NRL plan

Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has called for the NRL to submit a detailed plan regarding its potential return.

The NRL is looking to resume its season on May 28, with clubs to return to training early next month despite the coronavirus pandemic.

But Palaszczuk said she was still waiting to hear from the NRL, which has three clubs – Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland Cowboys and Gold Coast Titans – based in Queensland.

"I have not seen any detailed plan," she told a news conference on Thursday.

"I'm saying to the NRL: send the detailed plan, send all of your health information, send how it's all going to work, put it in a detailed plan and I'm more than happy to forward it to [Queensland chief health officer] Dr [Jeannette] Young and Dr Young has said today she is more than happy to consider it."

Palaszczuk added: "There are some Queensland teams here so let's see what can happen.

"I don't want to speculate until I see the detailed plan so if everyone can just wait until we get the detailed plan, let Dr Young consider it, but the sooner they get it in, the better it will be."

Australia has more than 6,600 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including 74 deaths.
