France is through to the quarterfinals of the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup underway in Port Moresby.

They defeated New Zealand 2-0 today at the Bava Park, witnessed by 995 supporters.

France scored through forward Marie-Charlotte Leger in the first half and Clara Mateo early in the second half.

Leger scored 17 minutes into the game.

The number 9 shot across 10 metres, out from the left of New Zealand goal keeper Nadia Olla, who was slow to stop the ball.

The French girls dominated the game, having more ball possession.

New Zealand was weak in attack throughout the game.

With an additional three minutes before half-time, France  failed to score following an attempt by Sakina Karchaoui during the extra time.

In the second half, France continued their dominance, preventing the Oceania team from scoring.

A goal from Clara Mateo just two minutes into the second half extended France's lead 2-0.

With additional four minutes, more pressure built for New Zealand as they struggled to score.

New Zealand couldn't keep up with the strong defense displayed by the French side, having more missed opportunities.

The New Zealanders have bowed out of the tournament with one win, against Ghana 1-0 in the first match, and a loss to USA 3-1 in their second match.
