Launching of Just Play programme for Ambae children

The Just Play Football programme has been launched on Maewo Island by Councillor Jackson Ading.

“This is the first time Just Play programme is implemented on Maewo, since its introduction in Penama province”, said Mr Ading.

The Just Play programme is launched with the delivery of Just Play courses which have been facilitated by the Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) with the participation of 28 teachers and community volunteers.

The courses have gathered different schools and communities from Maewo Island and Ambae Island that have been evacuated to Maewo because of Ambae’s volcano eruption.

“Thank you VFF for the Just Play programme and also thank you to the people of Ambae for coming over to Maewo, so we could have such opportunity as Just Play programme” said Chief Jerry Butu from Naone village of Maewo.

Just Play programme is a sport for development programme and is designed to promote education, health, children’s right, social inclusion, gender equality and community development among children aged 6-12 years.

The Just Play programme is designed by Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), with the support and partnership of the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, Uefa football foundation and Unicef.
