Vanuatu cricketers still winless in Malaysia

Vanuatu remain winless in World Cricket League Four after an 81 run defeat by Uganda.

After electing to bowl first in Kuala Lumpur, the Melanesians removed both openers to leave Uganda reeling at 2 for 5 in the third over.

But a series of key middle order partnerships enabled the African side to recover and post a challenging 222 for 8 from their 50 overs.

Apolinaire Stephen was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 37, while spinner Jelany Chilia conceded just 21 runs from his ten overs.

The Vanuatu run-chase began in horror fashion with Jonathon Dunn, Patrick Matautaava and Shane Deitz all out for no score while Joshua Rasu managed just one run, as the Melanesians slumped to four wickets for two runs in the fifth over.

Captain Andrew Mansale led the fightback with a game-high 69 from 110 balls but Vanuatu continued to lose regular wickets before being dismissed for 141 in the 47th over.
