Britney Spears speaks out against 'abusive' conservatorship at hearing

   

In a rare public testimony, the singer told a court her father controlled her "100,000%" and he "loved" it.

"I am traumatised," she said, speaking remotely. "I just want my life back."

Jamie Spears was granted control over his daughter's personal and business affairs in a court-ordered conservatorship in 2008.

The order was originally granted after the star was hospitalised amid concerns over her mental health.

Britney Spears responds to fans' concerns over wellbeing

In a video posted to Instagram Saturday, the singer finally responded to fans asking if she is ok: "I'm here to answer all of your questions," she starts.

Towards the end of the video, she reveals the "next question is, am I ok?" - a question fans have been dying to hear the answer to since the documentary Framing Britney Spears exposed the ins and outs of the conservatorship she is locked into. 

"Yes, I'm totally fine," she responds. 

Britney Spears 'cried for two weeks' over Framing documentary

The singer said she did not watch Framing Britney Spears in its entirety but was upset by the parts she did see.

"I didn't watch the documentary, but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in," the pop star wrote on Instagram.

The 39-year-old said she had "cried for two weeks" following its broadcast.

The post is her first direct comment on Framing Britney Spears, which focused on her life and mental health issues.

The statement was accompanied by a video of the singer dancing and playing air guitar to Aerosmith's hit Crazy.

Britney Spears asks judge to remove her father as her conservator

The singer's life has been controlled by a court-ordered conservatorship since 2008 after her public breakdown.

A temporary conservator, Jodi Montgomery, was appointed in 2019 after her father Jamie Spears stepped down due to health issues.

Spears is now requesting that Montgomery be made permanent.

Spears' conservatorship is split into two parts - one is for her estate and financial affairs, the other is for her as a person.

Jamie Spears has been his daughter's legal conservator for 12 years, due to concerns around her mental health.

He temporarily stepped aside from the role overseeing her personal affairs in 2019, citing his own health problems.

Some of Spears' fans believe she was forced into the arrangement, and have been running a #FreeBritney campaign.

"Britney is strongly opposed to James' return as conservator of her person," according to a court document filed to the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles.

 A judge ordered 44-year-old Sam Lutfi, who has been in legal fights with the Spears family for a decade, to stay at least 200 yards (183 metres) from her, her parents and her two sons, who are 12 and 13.

The judge also ordered that he not contact or disparage anyone from the family.

The restraining order petition alleges Lutfi has been sending harassing and threatening texts to Spears' family and disparaging them on social media.

The Toxic singer had been in dispute with the dancer for several months as he wanted the amount of child support she pays for their two sons, Sean Preston, 13, and 12-year-old Jayden, increased from $US20,000 a month and they have reportedly now reached a new deal.

The terms of the agreement are confidential, but a source told The Blast that Britney has agreed to increase her monthly payments to Kevin by "thousands more".
