Cyclone Fili upgraded to a category 2 tropical cyclone

Cyclone Fili is located 220km north-west of New Caledonia making its way south at six kilometres an hour.

New Caledonian authorities have placed one northern district on alert level two for cyclone preparedness, while five other northern districts are at alert level one.

In the next 24 hours forecasters expect Cyclone Fili to move south south-east, 180km from Belep.

     

TC Ruby moving into Vanuatu waters

According to the Vanuatu Meteorological and Geo-hazard Department, the cyclone is currently located south of Solomon Islands and north-west of New Caledonia.

TC Ruby will cause cloudy conditions with rain, showers of rain and possible thunder over the group.

“Tropical Cyclone Ruby, CAT 2, is expected to intensify and cross 160E into Vanuatu AoR (Area of Responsibility) in the next 6 to 12 Hours. There is no other Tropical Low or Tropical cyclone developing or moving in to the Vanuatu AoR in the next 5 days.”

 

Cyclone Ana moves over Fiji capital

The category two storm, packing gusts up to 140 kilometres an hour, made landfall on the main island of Viti Levu this morning and had been moving south-southwest towards Suva since.

The Fiji Meteorological Service's, Sakeasi Waibuta, said many parts of the country had already suffered from severe flooding with over 100 millimetres of rain overnight and the downpours continuing today.

Cyclone Mona becomes a category two storm in Fiji

A few hours ago Mona was situated about 300 kilometres northwest of Labasa.

The storm is packing winds of up to 130 km/hr as it moves south-southwest.

However tonight Mona is expected to turn and move east-southeast towards the Fiji islands of Vanua Levu and Viti Levu.

A tropical cyclone alert remains in force for most of Fiji with the far north island of Rotuma already being given the all-clear and the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups maintaining a gale warning.

Donna raised to Category 2 cyclone

Vanuatu's weather authorities say the cyclone is located about 205 kilometres east northeast of Sola in the northernmost province of Torba.

It's moving in a west southwest direction at 29 kilometres an hour.

RNZI reports damaging gale force winds gusting up to 165 kilometres an hour are expected to affect the provinces of Torba, Penama and Sanma in the next 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall and flash and coastal flooding are also expected.

Amos now a category two cyclone

According to RNZI, the cyclone is moving east-northeast at nine kilometres an hour and is intensifying.

On its current track, the cyclone is expected to pass just south of Samoa overnight Saturday.
