Don Lemon, CNN anchor, fired after 17 years on the network

"I am stunned," Lemon wrote on Twitter, saying he was told by his agent he had been let go.

CNN said it "parted ways" with Lemon, who co-hosted its morning show, saying "we wish him well".

It follows on-air remarks by Lemon in which he said Republican Nikki Haley, 51, was not "in her prime".

The dismissal also comes on the heels of another major US media departure. Just moments before Lemon's announcement, Fox News announced it was parting ways with primetime host Tucker Carlson.

The veteran journalist, who joined the network in 2006 and has hosted CNN Tonight since 2014, shared the news with viewers during Friday night's show. 

"It's been really, really great. This is the last night that will be CNN Tonight With Don Lemon," said Lemon, 55. "So, I appreciate all the years of CNN Tonight With Don Lemon, but changes are coming, and I will fill you in."

He is feeling well, and will continue to anchor his 9 p.m. program "Cuomo Prime Time" from his home.

"In these difficult times that seem to get more difficult and complicated by the day, I just found out that I am positive for coronavirus," Cuomo wrote in a message on Twitter.

"I have been exposed to people in recent days who have subsequently tested positive and I had fevers, chills and shortness of breath," he wrote. "I just hope I didn't give it to the kids and Cristina. That would make me feel worse than this illness!"

Three journalists leaving CNN after retracted article

Thomas Frank, who wrote the story in question; Eric Lichtblau, an editor in the unit; and Lex Haris, who oversaw the unit, have all left CNN.

"In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on CNN.com, CNN has accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story's publication," a spokesman said Monday evening.

An internal investigation by CNN management found that some standard editorial processes were not followed when the article was published, people briefed on the results of the investigation said.

CNN fires Kathy Griffin

CNN's decision comes one day after photos were released of Griffin that showed the comedian holding up a bloody head resembling that of President Donald Trump.

"CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year's Eve program," the network said in a statement.

Griffin has apologized for the photos, taken by provocative celebrity photographer Tyler Shields.
