Moylan gets last laugh as Sharks beat Panthers

Without injured co-captains Paul Gallen (knee) and Wade Graham (hamstring), the Sharks needed Moylan and fellow off-season recruit Josh Dugan to stand up after losing Luke Lewis to a calf injury in the 13th minute. The pair delivered in arguably their best performances since joining the club to spark the Sharks to a gritty 26-22 win.

Hodkinson happy to be 'Mr Fix It' for Sharks

Hodkinson has become somewhat of a "Mr Fix It" at the Sharks, as a well as a good luck charm.

Due to a niggling injury to regular half Moylan, Hodkinson has played the last two rounds against the Parramatta Eels and Melbourne Storm alongside regular No.7 Chad Townsend.

Moylan (knee/hamstring) and Josh Dugan (groin) did not do the field session at Southern Cross Group Stadium on Tuesday, but coach Shane Flanagan says both are "good chances" to play the Roosters.

Flanagan furious with error-prone Sharks

World Cup winner Valentine Holmes – moved from fullback after a poor outing in the round one loss to the Cowboys – backed it up with another forgettable match while his replacement Josh Dugan was mostly strong. Flanagan said Holmes will continue on the wing, for now.

Cronulla had raced out to a 14-0 lead and completed their first 20 sets but fell to pieces after half-time as the Dragons finally got the use of a strong breeze.

Sharks v Dragons: Round 2 preview

In light of the incessant roasting Wests Tigers fans gave former golden boy James Tedesco in the round one stoush with the Roosters, it'll be interesting to see how Dugan is received by Dragons followers in his first home game in a Sharks jersey.

The Dragons' display in their convincing win over Brisbane was one of the more impressive performances in the opening round, while the Sharks were first-up losers to the Cowboys but were in striking distance until the closing stages.

Josh Dugan’s cheeky try celebration on Sharks debut explained

Fox Sports commentators were among those baffled to see Dugan drop to one knee and then simulate wrapping something around his wrist after scoring his first Sharks try.

NRL 2018: Cronulla Sharks to blood coach Shane Flanagan's son Kyle in NRL trials

Flanagan revealed Kyle, 19, will play in the Sharks No.7 jersey in his side's first pre-season trial against Manly at Southern Cross Group Stadium on February 17.

The Sharks coach has previously said he would have no hesitation picking his son for first grade if he feels he's up to it and Kyle looks set to receive his first taste in the coming months.

While Flanagan said Chad Townsend and Matt Moylan were his first-pick halfback and five-eighth for 2018, he was giving his son every chance to push for a starting spot.

Cronulla Sharks predicted Round 1 line-up

While there is conjecture around whether either of those big-name fullbacks will displace incumbent Valentine Holmes, they seem likely to start at centre and five-eighth respectively. Aaron Gray could start at centre or wing. The pack will look very familiar to fans, other than the inclusion of Ava Seumanufagai on the bench.

NRL.com expert Jamie Soward says:

"The most contested spots will be on their bench. Do they carry two hookers or do they use Paulo instead of Segeyaro? Kurt Capewell, can he provide good minutes and not have those inconsistent performances.

Sharks ready to move on after Origin

The Sharks have had five players involved in the 2017 State of Origin Series and although James Maloney missed Saturday night's loss, the other four players backed up in various emotional states.

Valentine Holmes was riding the high of Queensland's win but rotated with Gerard Beale between wing and fullback, Andrew Fifita's Origin heartbreak was offset by the birth of his third child and Jack Bird and Wade Graham carried the burden of the Blues' defeat into the clash with the Titans.

Heartbreaking lesson for Tiger cubs

The Tigers looked home and hosed when Malakai Watene-Zelezniak crossed and then Tui Lolohea nailed the sideline conversion to move them ahead by eight points with 10 minutes remaining, but it wasn't to be as the Sharks punished a couple of errors to race in two late tries to steal the win.

Heighno's call to Leichhardt faithful

As the Wests Tigers use three grounds – Leichhardt Oval, Campbelltown Stadium and ANZ Stadium – throughout the season, they have only met the Sharks on seven occasions at the venue since 2000.
