Vanuatu Agriculture Department creates awareness on new Agriculture Permit Systems

The permit system relates to the Agriculture Legislation and Agriculture Regulation under the Agriculture Act that was passed in Parliament in 2018.

The Director for the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Antoine Ravo, said the Agriculture Act is new.

“There is a need to develop Agriculture Regulations and these regulations are already in their final draft.”

“This workshop will focus on piloting the permit systems for agriculture mainly the different forms as to how the forms will be used and its process.

Kava farmer to supply 40,000 kava cuttings to Vanuatu agriculture department

Charlie and Adeline Misa from South Tanna will be supplying kava cuttings to farmers that DARD will be supporting through the National Kava Replanting Programme.

The total number of kava cuttings to be supplied is 40,000 (20 cuttings per bundle x 2,000 bundles).

Director for DARD, Antoine Ravo, said, “This is the first PPP that DARD has signed with the farmers in TAFEA province.

Vanuatu’s Lycee School signs agreement with DARD

An agreement was signed by Acting Principal Agriculture Officer (South), Peter Iesul, on behalf of the Director for DARD and the Acting Principal for Lycee LAB to facilitate this.

Lycee School has expressed interest in working with DARD to ensure their agriculture students have the opportunity to do practical work relating to the lessons they have learned in the classroom.

This is the second MOA signed between DARD and two well- known schools in Port Vila.

The first agreement was signed with Malapoa College in 2018 and the second agreement with Lycee School.

Vanuatu DARD acknowledges its officers

Director for DARD, Antoine Ravo, commended the officers for their support for the SMAS event.

Mr Ravo encouraged all DARD officers including officers in the province to continue to work as a team throughout this year despite the difficulties and challenges faced.

"I want us all to maintain the Team Spirit, great working relationship to continue to work as a team to implement all activities that are yet to be carried out for this year 2019," he said.

Vanuatu agriculture department offers work attachment for students

Some of the students are attending different Universities in the Pacific while others are from Malapoa College, Onesua Presbyterian College and Central School in Vanuatu.

They are studying different fields in Agriculture like Bachelor of Tropical Agriculture, Bachelor of Agriculture and Applied Science, Agriculture Economist and Bachelor of Agri- Business.

The Department of Agriculture annually provides an opportunity for students to undertake work experience and involved in practical activities at the farm in Port Vila.
