Presidential Medal of Honour

The Vanuatu Prime Minister, also the Minister of ICT and Telecommunication, Bob Loughman Weibur himself recommended Deepak Khanna to receive the Medal. According to the Prime Minister, Deepak’s contribution, and efforts in providing vital assistance via Digicel to the victims of the TC Harold Category 5 cyclone that destroyed most of the northern islands of Vanuatu in April 2020 was highlighted prominently. The initiative shown especially to restore connectivity of the Northern Islands region with the rest of the world was extremely creditable worked by him and his team.

As such, we announced details of a proposed Scheme of Arrangement in the Bermudian Courts in connection with Digicel Group One Limited, which is purely an intermediate financing holding company.

This Scheme has the support of over 97% of its bondholders and also involves the appointment of light touch joint provisional liquidators to oversee the implementation of the Scheme.

9 lives saved - Digicel phone helps track drifting boat in Vanuatu

Vanuatu Police and Ports and Harbour staff sought Digicel Vanuatu’s assistance to track the boat which had left Santo for Malekula last week but failed to reach its destination on time. One passenger who had a Digicel number used it to call the Police and the Ports and Harbour in Santo for help as they were not able to see the Island.

Digicel’s Network Operation Centre Team in Suva managed to track the location of the mobile phone and alerted authorities who managed to find the boat and towed it to Santo.

There were 8 adults and 1 child on board.

Special Olympics Team Vanuatu does country proud

The team arrived home to a rousing welcome as members proudly displayed their medals for family members and fans to see.

Thirty-three year old Ken Kalsong picked up a gold and a bronze medal in athletics in the 100m and long jump events.

Monique Sau collected a silver medal and a bronze medal for shotput and 100m respectively.

Toumaramara Taravaki and Atis Carlo each received 2 bronze medals.

 Digicel Vanuatu provided cash sponsorship of USD $10,000 to assist the team prepare for the World Games.
