Eels

Errors cost Warriors against Eels

The Warriors put themselves under pressure in the opening stanza after conceding three set re-starts and while they defended well it was only a matter of time before they cracked.

Waqa Blake scored his first try in the 12th minute after Reed Mahoney threw a long pass behind Reagan Campbell-Gillard from dummy half for the Eels centre to stroll over the Warriors line.

The Warriors refused to give up and after a sustained period of pressure on the Parramatta line, Wayde Egan and Adam Pompey combined to put winger Marcelo Montoya over eight minutes before halftime.

Eels bounce back to down Roosters

The Eels bounced back from a shock loss to the last-placed Bulldogs last Monday to produce one of the best performances of the season.

Parramatta’s forwards overpowered their rivals and their backs capitalized as the Eels piled on five razzle-dazzle tries.

Props for the NSW OriginJunior Paulo and Reagan Campbell-Gillard carried the ball for more than 200 metres each, while back-rower Ryan Matterson produced five of his side’s 21 offloads.

Dragons knock Eels out of top four with fourth straight win

Dynamic fullback Matt Dufty starred with two tries and two first-half assists for Jack Bird and Mikaele Ravalawa but the scoreboard didn't quite reflect a tough contest where Parramatta struggled to execute.

St George Illawarra's goal-line and scramble defence was outstanding as they displayed line-speed and aggression from the get-go, shocking the Eels and mounting an 18-0 half-time lead.

They overcame the sin-binning of Tariq Sims early in the second half, after which the hosts finally scored, to eventually kick clear.

Eels beat Storm

Of most concern is hooker Brandon Smith, who left the field late clutching his jaw, while five-eighth Ryley Jacks also went down with a hip injury.

The Storm could well be the first team to fall foul of a crusher tackle crackdown, with debutant half Cooper Johns and bench forward Albert Vete placed on report in the first half.

Injury-hit Eels blood young giant Stefano as Tigers tussle looms

Utoikamanu, viewed as a potential star after impressing for NSW in the State of Origin under-20 clash last year, was the subject of a tug-of-war between Parramatta and the Tigers in the off-season with the joint-venture club trying to get him a year early after signing him for 2021.

He will make his long-awaited Telstra Premiership debut on Sunday and could be lining up against his future club in round 11 with Parramatta missing four middle forwards after a string of mid-season injuries.

Eels land Roosters winger Ferguson

The versatile 28-year-old will join the Eels next year after he rejected an offer from Newcastle Knights.

Ferguson has scored 10 tries in 16 NRL games for the Roosters this season and put his outstanding form down to improving his off-field discipline.

"I had a conversation with him about how important it is for us that we want the right people and good people at our club," Eels coach Brad Arthur told NRL.com.

Robert Jennings scores four tries as Rabbitohs outgun Eels

Although the Rabbitohs share 22 competition points with the Dragons and Panthers, their commanding win gave them a far better points differential. So they will stay kings of the castle for at least 24 hours until Penrith play the Roosters.

Souths were superior in so many areas at ANZ Stadium, their victory coming off the back of a magnificent night's work to winger Jennings, who spoiled his brother Michael's 250th NRL game, and a brace to fullback Alex Johnston.

Warriors cause more misery for Eels

It's the Eels ninth loss in eleven games and sees them remain at the bottom of the NRL ladder.

The Warriors led 12-2 at the break but the Eels looked like getting their season back on track when they scored twice to lead 14-12 midway throught the second half.

But they let the match slip just eight minutes later when Mitchell Moses misfielded an awkward Blake Green kick, allowing Warriors utility Jazz Tevaga to scoop up the ball and score.

Cowboys upset Eels to close in on final

The Cowboys pulled off one of the biggest boilovers of the year in front of 41,287 at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

The Cowboys only snuck into eighth spot when St George Illawarra were beaten by Canterbury in the last round but will now take on the Sydney Roosters next Saturday for a spot in the grand final.

The Townsville side were effectively written off after co-captains Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott were ruled out for the year but continue to defy the odds.

Tigers and Eels unite for suicide awareness

This initiative is in honour of the Kelly family, who tragically lost two sons –Thomas and Stuart – four years apart.

Then-18-year-old Thomas was the victim of coward-punch killer Kieran Loveridge in Kings Cross in 2012; Stuart took his own life one year ago, also at the age of 18, after not only losing his brother but having to deal with the fallout including being victimised over the State Government's introduction of lockout laws in the wake of the initial tragedy.
