Biogas project to benefit mamas selling food at markets in Efate

The department and the city council have signed an agreement to facilitate the project.

The Director of DARD, Antoine Ravo said the government of Israel has provided eight units of Home Biogas 

"Four Home Biogas units for Efate, two units will be installed at the main Port Vila market and two at the Vanuatu Fresh Produce Market.

"An example of this Biogas technology can be explored at El Manaro nakamal."

Ravo said DARD and PVCC will work in partnership with the Vanuatu Agriculture Supplies to source the units.

No lockdown in Vanuatu Covid-19 simulation exercise

The simulation exercise will be conducted on Sunday and Monday.

There was speculation of a lockdown after two Covid-19 cases were detected in quarantine last weekend.

The implementation of the containment measures as part of the simulation exercise are aimed at testing the Covid-19 preparedness efforts of individuals, communities, organizations and government institutions that provide frontline of defense and response to this deadly disease.

Registration of Tahitian lime farms on Efate underway

Technical officers, Fernand Massing and Sylvie Boulekouran have been inspecting the Tahitian lime farms as a follow-up of an awareness training on the Tahitian lime export procedures and export pathways under the Tahitian Lime Export Procedures Manual Vanuatu.

The initial training brought together Tahitian lime growers around the island of Efate at the beginning of last month.

The inspection was carried out under the Tahitian lime Export Procedures Manual Vanuatu Pathway components one and two.

Efate outbound travel ban lifted

The clearance to travel is effective from today after the Ministry of Health completed its risk assessment to Covid-19 community transmission related to a Filipino national.

Director National Disaster Management Office, Abraham Nasak said the primary contacts results were all negative and so there is no threat or chance of them transmitting the Covid-19 virus.

“Therefore people outbound travel by sea and air from Efate and its offshore islands can begin travel from Thursday, 22 April 2021.”

Vanuatu chiefs stand firmly against TamTam bubble proposal

Last month the government announced it would look to reopen the borders between the main island of Efate and New Caledonia in the hope it would boost business in the capital Port Vila and aid necessary travel for those studying in both countries.

However the local Council of Chiefs said borders were still closed to people from New Caledonia and other countries.

The Council Chairman, Chief Simon Poilapa, said a resolution around Efate and its offshore islands which was made in 2020, would stand.

Vanuatu health authorities record typhoid case on Efate

As of 3 September 2019, one case of typhoid has been confirmed by laboratory testing of a seven-year-old child of North Efate.

According to the ministry, the surveillance team conducted an investigation and preliminary findings indicate the patient was infected through poor hygiene and unsafe/unhealthy environment.

The ministry says no other cases have been detected after an investigation.

VIPA inspects shops in rural areas of Efate

The areas include Freshwota, Anamburu, Ohlen, and Manples.

VIPA said the inspection was successfully conducted last week with the departments of Customs, VAT, Labour and Immigration.

The authority’s focus for the inspection was to verify the foreign status of shop owners as being foreigner or naturalized Ni Vanuatu.

VIPA also confirmed that all shop owners have been confirmed as naturalized Ni Vanuatu who have Vanuatu passports.
