Vanuatu PM acknowledges departing Digicel CEO’s contributions

A statement said the PM made the remarks Friday when he hosted Mr Khanna at a lunch in his office.

"Thank you for being so helpful to our country especially in a time when people need better communication as the country is faced with huge health and security threats.

“Your contributions in recovering from TC Harold since April last year must be noted,” he said when thanking Mr Khanna.

The Digicel CEO said it was a great honour having served the people of Vanuatu over the last two years and he admitted that Vanuatu will have a special space in his heart.

With the theme of “Inclusive Connectivity; The future of regulation,” the four-day event aims to promote dialogue and collaboration between Government, regulatory authorities and the private sector in developing a framework to drive growth in information technology globally.

The partnership sees Digicel taking an active role in the proceedings and side events of GSR-19, as well as hosting delegates’ dinners and coffee breaks - and installing purpose-built IT infrastructure and managed services at the Warwick Le Lagoon hotel.

First CROP ICT WG meeting for 2017

One of the issues was the formation of a Task Force that will look into the logistics of this bigger group meeting, such as confirming the list of invitees and determining the aims and objectives of the meeting.

The Task Force includes Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, University of the South Pacific, Asian Development Bank and Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association.

The CROP ICT WG is responsible for coordinating the different tasks undertaken by various players in the key areas in ICT.

India offers fully-funded training courses to Commonwealth citizens

The courses are sponsored by the Government of India and delivered by Indian institutions through the Indian Technical and Economic (ITEC) Programme. ITEC is part of the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Third Country Training Programmes, which aims to build capacity in member countries by providing specialist training in key areas of development work.

World Bank study finds strong potential for jobs in online industries for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for Jobs in the Pacific has found that almost 10,000 jobs could be created across Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, with optimistic scenarios making that number as high as 27,000, representing more than 3% of GDP.

Vanuatu wins top United Nations ICT award

The Prime Minister stated that, “I am very pleased today to reveal that the United Nations and its ICT agency, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), have decided to honor Vanuatu with the UN/ITU ‘Award for ICTs in Sustainable Development.’

“This award was given for using ICTs to help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
