Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey steps down as chief executive

He will be replaced by the current chief technical officer, Parag Agrawal, Twitter said.

Mr Dorsey, who co-founded Twitter in 2006, has been serving as chief executive of both Twitter and payment firm Square.

"It's finally time for me to leave" he wrote in a statement, saying the company was "ready to move on."

Mr Dorsey said he had "deep" trust in his replacement. "I'm deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It's his time to lead," he said.

Mr Agrawal joined Twitter in 2011, and has been the firm's head of technology since 2017.

Bids reach $2.5m for Twitter co-founder's first post

"Just setting up my twttr," the post, sent from Mr Dorsey's account in March 2006, reads.

It will be sold as a non-fungible token (NFT) - a unique digital certificate that states who owns a photo, video or other form of online media.

But the post will remain publicly available on Twitter even after it has been auctioned off.

The buyer will receive a certificate, digitally signed and verified by Mr Dorsey, as well as the metadata of the original tweet. The data will include information such as the time the tweet was posted and its text contents.

Another CEO Hacked... It's Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey!

OurMine claimed responsibility for the hack, which was spotted after the group managed to post some benign video clips.

The team also tweeted at 2:50 AM ET today saying "Hey, its OurMine,we are testing your security," with a link to their website that promotes and sells its own "services" for which it has already made $16,500.

Although the tweets posted by the group did not contain any harmful content, both the tweet and linked to a short Vine video clip have immediately been removed.

Twitter gives co-founder Jack Dorsey a 2nd chance as CEO

The hiring revealed Monday in a regulatory filing ends Twitter's three-month search for a new leader. It marks Dorsey's second stint as CEO since he helped start the San Francisco company more than nine years ago with Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass.

Twitter dumped Dorsey his first time around, but its board of directors is now convinced he has the maturity and expertise to fix the problems that have caused the company's stock to lose nearly half its value in the past five months.

Twitter stock tumbles as user growth stalls

Twitter is "not satisfied" with its user growth, co-founder Jack Dorsey, who replaced Dick Costolo as CEO earlier this month, said Tuesday after the earnings report. But that's unlikely to change any time soon.

Twitter doesn't expect to see "sustained, meaningful growth" of its number of users until it reaches the mass market, said Chief Financial Officer Anthony Noto. This, he said, will take considerable time.
