James O'Connor

James O'Connor's return gives Wallabies coach Dave Rennie selection headache

O'Connor – who suffered a torn MCL in the Wallabies' 27-7 loss to the All Blacks at Eden Park before suffering a plantar fascia injury – did not feature on Rennie's team list for the record breaking loss to New Zealand at ANZ Stadium, the upset win against the same opponents at Suncorp Stadium or the frustrating 15-all draw against the Pumas.

But O'Connor started his press conference on Monday by declaring he would be fit and ready to steer the Australians to a season ending win against Argentina at Sydney's Bankwest Stadium on Saturday.

James O'Connor to start at centre for Wallabies against All Blacks

Australia do not name their team until Thursday but it is understood coach Michael Cheika is set to make a number of changes for the match at Perth on Saturday.

O'Connor's selection at No 13 in place of Tevita Kuridrani is set to be the big talking point, with the Brumbies centre understood to have been left out of the match day 23 altogether.

It caps a remarkable comeback for O'Connor, who played his first game since 2013 for the Wallabies two weeks ago in Brisbane, coming off the bench.

Lealiifano, O'Connor named for Wallabies returns

Lealiifano, 31, is set for his first Australia appearance since June 2016, having returned to form with the Brumbies after a battle with leukaemia.

While Lealiifano was named to start at fly-half for the Wallabies in the Rugby Championship clash in Brisbane on Saturday, O'Connor is among the reserves.

O'Connor has played 44 Tests for the Wallabies, but the last of those was in September 2013, also against Argentina.

O'Connor flew into Brisbane with the Wallabies on Monday night and could be named in the test side to play the Pumas at Suncorp Stadium, capping a fairytale return for a player almost universally maligned when he played his last test in 2013.

Rugby stars charged in Paris over cocaine

The pair were arrested outside a nightclub near the Champs Elysees on Saturday and spent a night in jail.

Williams, 35, will appear in court at a later date having accepted a charge of buying cocaine, judicial sources say.

O'Connor, 26, faces a charge of possession. They were found with 2.4 grams of the drug.

Police, quoted by AFP, alleged Williams was seen in a car with two suspected drug dealers. O'Connor was allegedly spotted outside the car acting as a lookout.

Williams plays for the French team Racing 92 and O'Connor is at Toulon.
