Fox Sports has reported that the hooker, who signed for the Broncos earlier this month, was caught on his way to buy a morning coffee.

Segeyaro was on his P-plates and as a consequence should have had a zero reading.

“The Brisbane Broncos can confirm that James Segeyaro has been issued with a notice to appear for driving under the influence of alcohol,” the Broncos said in a statement.

Fox Sports reported that currently contracted to the Sharks’ feeder-club the Newtown Jets, the 28-year-old has been released from his one-year contract to join Brisbane for the remainder of the season.

Segeyaro’s signing comes at a crucial time with Brisbane hooker Andrew McCullough out with a knee injury.

McCullough will miss six to eight weeks, after suffering an MCL injury at Broncos training.

Segeyaro’s move to Queensland gives him the opportunity to play behind a much hyped young Broncos’ forward pack.

The former Dally M hooker of the year was cut from Cronulla’s 30-man playing roster to ensure the Sharks were cap compliant before this week’s season opener against Newcastle.

After he also signed a $1 deal to play with Newtown in the NSW Cup, Segeyaro hopes the Sharks can offload another player to allow him to resume his NRL career in the Shire.

The training deal allows Segeyaro to bide his time at the Sharks without being paid and remain match fit playing for Newtown while Cronulla attempt to resolve their salary-cap issues.

The hooker was let go by the Sharks at the end of last season after a two-year spell at the club.

There was interest in Segeyaro over the summer, with the Newcastle Knights said to be looking at the 28-year-old.

But nothing came of it, which forced the Papua New Guinea international to take work as a barista to make ends meet.

But now after agreeing to a one-year deal, the former Cowboys, Penrith and Leeds rake will join the Brailey brothers — Jayden and Blayke — in competing for the Sharks’ No 9 jersey.

After being granted permission to officially train with the club late last week, Segeyaro has been provided with a release from UK Super League club the Leeds Rhinos and once his new contract has been registered by the NRL will be eligible to turn out for the Sharks.

Segeyaro is said to be looking for an NRL return, but is still contracted to Super League side Leeds.

With veteran Michael Ennis announcing his shock retirement last year, Flanagan says he still hasn’t decided on a replacement, but wouldn’t rule out making a play for former Cowboys and Panthers rake Segeyaro.

“We have spoken to James but we believe he’s got a contract in place with Leeds, so he’s got to deal with that before he does anything with our club,” Flanagan told Sky Sports Radio.

The 26-year-old made a big impact at the Rhinos after joining them, initially on loan, from NRL club Penrith in July, helping them win nine of their last 10 matches of the season to comfortably retain their Super League status.

The Rhinos, who have rediscovered their form too late to climb out of the bottom four, knocked Hull off the top of the Super League table a week ago but helped them reclaim the spot by defeating their nearest rivals in a tense Grand Final re-match at Headingley.

The reigning champions looked to have the game sewn up when they led 18-4 after 65 minutes but they were forced to withstand a late rally from their visitors before clinching an 18-16 victory that lifts them off the bottom of the table.

The 24-year-old, who will begin training with the Panthers next week, played 154 games for Leeds after making his debut for the Super League club in 2011.

In 2015 Hardaker was named Man of Steel after helping Leeds win the Challenge Cup, League Leaders Shield and First Utility Super League Grand Final.

"This is truly exciting for the Panthers to have a current English international joining the club for the remainder of the 2016 season," Panthers Executive General Manager Phil Gould AM said.

Panthers general manager of football Phil Gould said the crafty hooker, who has been dropped for Saturday's clash with Melbourne, would not be offered a deal for next year.

"That's a salary cap issue, I don't think we're going to be able to offer James a contract for next year and we've already told him that," Gould told Sky Sports Radio's Big Sports Breakfast.
