Manchester United suffer blow

United have been held to a 2-2 draw by Southampton at Old Trafford.

Southampton opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but United struck back twice before the break and appeared set for all three points until the visitors scored in stoppage time.

United remain fifth on goal difference behind Leicester, while Chelsea are another point ahead in third.

The top four qualify for Champions League football next season.

There are three games left.

Late Maguire winner edges United past Norwich

The game looked to be heading for a penalty shoot-out after Norwich, who had Timm Klose sent off in the 89th minute, defended superbly against constant pressure from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side before Maguire's goal two minutes from the end.

The win extends United's unbeaten run in all competitions to 14 matches and secures a 30th appearance in the last four of the FA Cup for the club.

"It wasn't a spectacle, we didn't threaten enough or create enough chances," said Solskjaer.

Man Utd 2-0 Man City

Anthony Martial fired the Red Devils ahead in the first half with a shot that City's goalkeeper should probably have kept out at his near post.

United survived some heavy second-half pressure until Scott McTominay scored an injury-time second after Ederson's throw went straight to his feet.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, beaten at home by City in their past three league meetings and the EFL Cup semi-final first leg, claimed a top-flight double over their city rivals for the first time since 2009-10 to leave the champions' title defence hanging by a thread.

Manchester United humiliated by City in League Cup semifinals

All of City's goals at Old Trafford came in a one-sided first half that highlighted the gulf which has opened up between the cross-town neighbours over recent years.

When the visitors went 3-0 up courtesy of an own-goal by Andreas Pereira in the 39th minute, memories were revived of the 6-1 win served up on this ground by Roberto Mancini's City in 2011 that signalled the shifting of the balance of football power in Manchester.

Chelsea 1-2 Man United

A penalty and a spectacular free-kick from Marcus Rashford sealed a third away win in a row in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Michy Batshuayi had drawn Chelsea level but Rashford struck in sublime fashion just as the home side looked to be building momentum, inflicting a first defeat on Frank Lampard's side since the 2-1 loss to Liverpool on September 22.

Scott McTominay, booked for an early lunge on Mateo Kovacic, whistled a shot just wide from Daniel James' corner 13 minutes in.

United making worst ever PL start

After seven matches of the 2019-20 campaign, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have only won twice and collected nine points.

They sit 10th in the table, only in the top half on goal difference, having amassed the same number of points as Burnley.

United have twice had 10 points on the board at this stage of the season, in the 2018-19 and 2013-14 campaigns.

Manchester United set to appoint former player as manager

There has been no official announcement that the Norwegian is taking over from Jose Mourinho, who was sacked earlier on Tuesday.

But a page on the club's website referred to their ex-striker as "our interim manager". It was later deleted.

Solskjaer, 45, scored 126 goals for United in 11 seasons with the club under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He is in charge at Norwegian side Molde but their 2018 season has finished for the winter and does not re-start until March.

Manchester United invite Thai cave survivors to Old Trafford

The 12 boys and their coach became trapped in the cave system after heavy rain in northern Thailand on June 23, and the mission to bring them back to the surface has gripped the world's attention.

On Tuesday, the final members of the team were brought out to complete the rescue, and the news has been welcomed across football.

United hailed the news and offered a trip to Manchester during the 2018-19 campaign for the group and their rescuers.

Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham: Ander Herrera sends United to FA Cup final

Ander Herrera was the unlikely United hero, firing a 62nd-minute winner after Alexis Sanchez cancelled out Dele Alli's opener in a pulsating first half.

Spurs pushed for a route back into the game but it was heartbreak for Mauricio Pochettino's men as the club's miserable FA Cup semi-final record extended to eight consecutive defeats.

For Jose Mourinho, who will return to Wembley for the final on May 19, former club Chelsea or Southampton stand between him and the fourth trophy of his tenure at Old Trafford.

United confirm Sanchez switch

The 29-year-old Sanchez, who was out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season, has joined the Old Trafford club after local rivals Manchester City had pulled out of the running.

British media reported that Sanchez, who will wear the club's iconic No. 7 shirt, had joined United on a 4-1/2-year deal, while Arsenal said that Armenian Mkhitaryan, who turned 29 on Sunday, had signed a long-term contract.
