The Kiwis recovered from a sluggish start, which saw the Kangaroos up 10-0 after just 15 minutes, to trail by six points with three minutes to go in front of 21,009 fans at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on Sunday morning (AEDT).

More than a hobby - pursuing the arts

However, recipients of Creative New Zealand Arts Pasifika awards in New Zealand hope their success can inspire others to turn their talent into a job. Daniela Maoate-Cox spoke to the winners about the significance of their work.

A Niuean man walking down K-Road in Auckland is stopped and searched by police.

In his pocket is a plastic comb he'd taken from a bin of free items at work so the police charge him with theft from an employer.

Amnesty says NZ silence over Australian abuses deafening

The human rights group is one of many which has publicised abuses happening at the Australian run detention camps on Nauru and at Manus Island in Papua New Guinea.

Amnesty said recent research it has conducted shows the vast majority of New Zealanders want Prime Minister John Key and his government to challenge Australia over the abuses.

Its executive director, Grant Bayldon, said the silence has been deafening, given New Zealand's willingness to point to human rights abuses in other countries.

Perth defeat holds no fear for Kiwis

David Kidwell's side were well beaten at nib Stadium by Mal Meninga's Kangaroos, but Waerea-Hargreaves, returning after a three-year international exile, believes nothing should be read into that result ahead of Saturday's (Sunday AEDT) Four Nations clash in Coventry.

Val Adams appointed as Pacific Sports Ambassador

Foreign Minister Murray McCully said "the new role of Pacific Sports Ambassador will allow New Zealand to further develop our strong sporting links with the region."

"Valerie Adams is uniquely qualified to carry out this important role. She has strong connections to the Pacific through her Tongan heritage and is one of New Zealand's most successful and admired athletes.

Black Ferns strive for yet another level

The New Zealanders thumped the Wallaroos 67-3 in their first Test on Saturday -- their 14th win against Australia in as many matches

But Black Ferns coach Glenn Moore said it wasn't a perfect game and they want to put out an even better performance today.

"We want to continue to grow our defense structures and then, a part that was pretty average for us we thought was our ball retention, particularly when taking the ball to ground and trying to recycle it," he said.

Crowd funding to raise equity for Pacific restaurant

KP Auckland Limited is looking at setting up Kai Pasifika, which will showcase cuisines of the South Pacific Islands region. Fronted by multiple award winning celebrity chef and well known Pacific cuisine expert Robert Oliver, Kai Pasifika hopes to fill a glaring gap in Auckland’s cuisine scene, which features a wide range of the world’s major cuisine styles except the Pacific. This is despite being the world’s largest Polynesian city.

Kiwis go down in Perth to Kangaroos after lacklustre effort

In a test that was short of thrilling moments, Australia put in a workmanlike performance to record their second straight win over the No 1 team in the world.

The Kangaroos outscored the Kiwis five tries to one, with a big problem for New Zealand being knowing what the right move should be when attacking on the last tackle.

The spark that guided them to the outstanding 26-12 win over the Kangaroos in Brisbane last year, just wasn't there and other than the big runs from Jason Taumalolo, there were few 'wow' moments from players in black and white jerseys.

New Zealand's plan to save the kiwi

The Kiwi Recovery Plan 2017-2027 by the Department of Conservation is an attempt to scale up efforts to New Zealand's national icon.

Kiwi numbers have been falling at around 2% a year, largely due to predators such as stoats and dogs.

Once numbering in the millions, there are now only an estimated 68,000 kiwi remaining in the wild.
