Oscars 2023: Harry Styles has two films hoping for awards glory

Venice, Telluride (in Colorado) and Toronto all take place within a few days of each other in late August and September, and compete to host the very best movies.

Even though it doesn't get all of the major films which play at the other events, Toronto is a reliable Oscar predictor.

For the last decade, the winner of the festival's People's Choice Award, voted for by filmgoers, has consistently landed a best picture nomination, with a couple of films - Green Book and Nomadland - going on to win.

Laura Dern wins best supporting actress Oscar for Marriage Story

Laura Dern has won the best supporting actress Oscar at the 92nd Academy awards for her role as a predatory divorce lawyer in Marriage Story. Dern was the favourite for the award, but had to overcome competition from the likes of Kathy Bates in Richard Jewell, and Little Women’s Florence Pugh.

Marriage Story, written and directed by Noah Baumbach, stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson as a couple in the throes of separation; Dern plays Nora Fanshaw, the hilariously manipulative lawyer Johansson’s character hires to represent her.
