Pacific Games Village

Pacific Games Village completion on track for July

Driving along the Main West Coast Road, the Games Village at Faleula is a hive of activity. Electric Power Corporation, an official Friend of the Games, has staff up power poles, upgrading the electricity supply to the village.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority is carrying out inspections to check that smoke and fire alarms are installed, that there are enough emergency exits in all buildings, and that electrical wiring is up to standard.

The Disaster Management Office will be checking that assembly points and evacuation routes are clearly marked.

Serving up 100.000 meals at Games

While Tristan Allen of catering firm Eurest was working in the kitchen, he yelled out, “We’ve just hit 100,000 meals,” and cheers of delight followed.

The staff at the village serve an average of 3,000 people at every meal: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Allen said he was proud of the milestone for everyone involved.

Games Village hailed as best in the Pacific

Pacific Games Council (PGC) president Vidhya Lakhan told the local and international media today that the quality and standard of the Games Village is very good.

“The rooms are very comforting and the dining hall is exceptionally excellent.

“All the Games venues including the village have far exceeded our expectations.’’

He said that despite the small issues like laundry and others, they are confident that the athletes will have a home away from home environment.
