PNG Hunters 2016

Hunters leading 10-4 at break

The Hunters were under the pump right from the kick off; forced to defend in their own half in the opening minutes.

But solid defence denied the Seagulls early points.

After weathering the storm, the Hunters went on the counter attack and found the try line in the 12th minute through Justin Olam.

Ase Boas converted the try to take a 6-0 lead.

But the Seagulls continued to ask questions, threatening to score dominating possession.

The home side finally broke through the Hunters’ defence in the 31st minute when Sam Saville scored.

Hunters will clash with Seagulls on Sunday

The PNG Hunters had traveled to Piggabeen to the scene of their biggest ever loss, a heavy 64-28 defeat back in 2014.

That was the only time Tweed Heads had managed to defeat the Hunters in five encounters. However, the Seagulls came incredibly close to an upset back in Round 3 at the National Football Stadium, with only a late Noel Zeming conversion making the difference.

In recent weeks, the Hunters have returned to their bad old days in the competition where they struggle to win away from home.
