Vanuatu Government presents VT5 million to PacLII

PacLII is located within the School of Law at the Emalus campus.

Professor Eric Colvin, Head of the USP School of Law, accepted the donation from the Ministry.

Mr Colvin expressed appreciation to Minister Ken for the support given to PacLII and its staff.

He said without such support, it would not be possible for PacLII to continue serving the Pacific Islands.

PacLII is run by USP as a service to the Pacific communities.

More students graduate from USP’s Emalus Campus

Fiji’s President and USP Chancellor, Jioji Konusi Konrote, conferred the Degrees and awarded the Diplomas and Certificates to the graduating students during the ceremony last Friday.

Konrote congratulated the graduating students and highlighted that the qualifications received will be a major game changer for the graduates and gives them every opportunity to excel in life and do well for their families, communities and country.

USP, Vanuatu Cultural Centre sign MOU

Under the MoU, research information will be disseminated between the parties, joint research activities like seminars/workshops will be organised and VCC will prioritise USP’s students and staff in their research projects carried out in the country.

USP on the other hand will facilitate logistic and administrative support for universities or researchers taking up studies under VCC in Vanuatu, according to a press release.

Calls for Emalus Campus to offer other courses

Mr Salwai informed the Pro Chancellor and Chair of USP Council, Winston Thompson that local students can only get law studies at Emalus Campus and Vanuatu has already a good number of lawyers. 

He says he wants to see whether USP can provide studies in engineering and other sectors to feed the current priority needs of the country.

Mr Salwai says Vanuatu is developing its infrastructure such wharf, roads and airports but there is a lack of local engineers.

"We have only 7 engineers at the moment," he said.

USP signs MOU with Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu

The MOU aims to enhance the friendly relationship through mutual cooperation between the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Vanuatu and USP’s Emalus Campus, in the provision and management of a scholarship funding called the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship Fund.

USP participates in Vanuatu Pacific ICT Day celebrations

Other partners included the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Vanuatu Tourism Office and other business houses.

The Pacific ICT Days 2017 was hosted with theme “Big Data, Big Impact”.

Staff from the Student Administration Services (SAS) were present at the venue of the Pacific ICT Days promoting USP programmes to potential students.

The IT Department staff demonstrated how ICT technologies assist students in their studies at USP and there was also General Knowledge, PaclII and Moodle quiz in which the public participated to win prizes.
