Vanuatu’s female footballers rejoice in milestone moment

The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and its member associations are grasping that opportunity with both hands to ensure a strong platform is built for future growth.

The latest country to reach a new milestone is Vanuatu, with the Melanesian nation this week completing the first edition of a national women’s competition. The geographical spread of nation’s archipelago - as is often the case in the Pacific - means organising such an event is no easy feat.

Players selected for first ever VFF Futsal Programme

The players were selected from the recent VFF National Youth Futsal Tournament.

VFF’s Futsal development officer, Ben Hungai said 16 players were picked as the best players in the tournament out of the 22 selected.

“The 22-player list come from the PVFA, SHEFA, Tafea, Penama, Luganville and the Beach Soccer program.

“As the VFF development officer, I would like to acknowledge God for this opportunity and with the theme for this year’s futsal and beach soccer festival and tournament “CHAMPION LO HAOS BIFO LO FIL BLO PLAY”,

Vanuatu to launch inaugural Beach Soccer Youth League

Vanuatu Football Federation’s Beach Soccer development officer, Ben Hungai confirmed that the Youth league will begin on Wednesday.

“VFF wants to introduce, develop and expose beach soccer in Vanuatu, and kicking off with the Youth league is the pathway towards this goal.”

“Around 12 teams altogether will be participating in this first ever league programme, all from existing Port Vila and Shefa clubs including communities as well. The league will consist of only U-16 youth players.”

The organisers are still finalizing the registered teams and schedule.

Vanuatu captain hopes new NZ competition will open the way for more islanders

After missing out on finals altogether last year because of the pandemic, Kaltak was hoping for a winner's medal with Auckland City, but arch-rivals Team Wellington got the better of them with a 4-2 victory.

The match was historic for more reasons than one, as it was the last final under New Zealand's old system, with Auckland now part of a new and bigger domestic competition which has already kicked off.

Kaltak is hoping the new set-up will open the way for more players from the Pacific Islands to join him in New Zealand, and that his own example will inspire others.

2 Vanuatu football players join Fiji’s Suva district football side

 The duo completed their mandatory 14-day quarantine and were released Tuesday.

Suva Football President Ritesh Pratap  expressed hos grateful he was in having the two top Vanuatu players in is side.

“Suva football is honoured to have the services of Alex Saniel and Azariah Soromon this season we know they have more to offer to the district side.

“We at SFA officials and players are excited to have them both this season.

“We are looking forward to see them in action on the field, they are well and already looking fit for the season,” Pratap said.

Seven local football coaches attend OFC Senior C Licence course in Vanuatu

The attendees were football men and women coaches who were eager to enhance their knowledge in football coaching and qualifications.

One of the six female participants and the victorious Port Vila Football women’s team head coach, Monic Kalpukai said she is grateful for the opportunity.

“I’m honoured to be part of this course as it will enhance my knowledge as a football coach as i gain more confidence in taking leadership role in my team.”

“I thank VFF for having me part of the course,” Kalpukai said.

Vanuatu’s Galaxy FC appoints new coach

This is part of Galaxy FC restructure for the new season as the club aims to make soccer a holistic approach in the community.

The club has made four appointments and one of these is the appointment of new head coach.

Solomon Islander Nelson Sale is the new assistant coach for the club.

Nelson has played with Auckland City and part of Solomon Island team.

Former head coach Mois Poida who led Galaxy FC to victory in the 2020 VFF National Super League is the new technical director.

     

New Vanuatu football training compensation regulation effective next season

The VFF executive has resolved in its last ordinary executive meeting at the Grand Hotel last week that a training compensation will be applicable to every clubs effective from the beginning of the new season.

President of Vanuatu Football Federation Lambert Maltock said not more than 100,000 vatu per player is required for other Member Associations except Port Vila Football Association clubs.

Vanuatu Football to conduct coaching clinic

VFF Technical Director, Peter Takaro will be the instructor.

The course aims to assist participants including coaches, teachers, parents or volunteers) to improve their knowledge and competency in relation to senior football.

Upon successful completion of the MA Senior Certificate, participants will have enhanced their skill-set and mind-set in the following areas knowledge of the game, knowledge of players, knowledge of role of the coach and coaching the training session.

Participants for this course must be 18 years of age or over.

Vanuatu football head has unfinished business

The 63-year-old from Malekula was first elected in 2007 and earlier this week was re-elected to a fourth term that will end in 2024.

A long-standing member of the Oceania Football Confederation's (OFC) Executive Committee, Maltock was elected as OFC President in January this year, following the resignation of David Chung.

He said it made sense for him to also continue his role in Vanuatu.
