Vanuatu Parliament session adjourned

Vanuatu parliament sitting deferred after boycott

The parliament was scheduled to meet this morning in a special session to discuss constitutional reform.

However, there were only the government's 33 MPs present and the speaker adjourned the session until Monday.

Vanuatu Parliament fails to meet two-third requirements

Only 24 members of parliament turned up, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the sitting.

In the first attempt this morning at about half-past nine, the Speaker entered the chamber only to find the numbers present short of the required 27 of the 52 member-house. He then suspended the session and sent MPs out for a short break.

When parliament returned late in the morning hours, only 24 government MPs were present.
