TRR surveys impact of mobile phone, internet in Vanuatu

But how much to we actually know and understand its impact on our society and the experiences of the consumer?

There may be a lot of aspects involved and now the Telecommunications and Radiocommunications Regulator (TRR) in Vanuatu is running a general survey for telecommunication users or consumers to provide feedback on various questions that target the use of mobile phones and internet.

Vanuatu PM scolds MPs over fee claim

According to RNZI, he says some MPs who were not present in parliament during a special sitting last week have tried to claim the allowance.

He's reminded MPs only those present and recorded on the roll of parliament's deputy clerk are entitled to the money.

Scientists discover new acarian species naming it Vanuatu

The finding has been reported by Tyumen State University (TyumSU), which took part in organising the data from the expedition. The new acari species was named Mixacarus vanuatuensis after the Republic of Vanuatu. In total, scientists have discovered 37 acarian species, of which 11 have been found for the first time in this region.

SPREP signs host country agreement with Fiji

Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and SPREP Director General Kosi Latu signed the agreement in Suva Monday.

Minister Kubuabola said the signing marked a new chapter in the partnership between the Fijian Government and SPREP.  Minister Kubuabola said the Government of Fiji was committed to its obligations towards regional organisations such as SPREP.  He said the signing of the agreement was a testament to that.                                                         

Boost for women's game in Vanuatu

A total of 198 players have registered for the nine clubs that will compete in the tournament organised by Santo Island’s Sanma FA.

The competition, which will run until the end of August, will also feature female coaches and eight female referees.

Local women’s football development officer Joella Avock said the new league will provide the best young players with a pathway to the elite level.

Vanuatu PM Salwai says referendum is a must

He was speaking to the media after a forced postponement of the extra ordinary sitting of parliament yesterday.

The parliament sitting was adjourned to Thursday 16 June due to a lack of quorum aggravated by a boycott by the 14-members Opposition Solidarity Bloc.

The prime minister conceded “parliament could not proceed because it lacks the required 39 members to substantiate a quorum. Only 35 government MPs were present including the Speaker, Esmon Saimon.

The “Antalya Appeal” for special and differentiated treatment by UN on LDC countries

This is in particular, of those SIDS, such as Vanuatu, which are faced with the challenge of losing Least Developed Country (LDC) status.

Mr Ludvaune, who is the Member of Parliament for Malekula, made the appeal when addressing the Comprehensive High-level Mid-term Review by the United Nations of the Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries in Antalya (Turkey) recently.

Vanuatu is earmarked for graduation come December 2020.

Vanuatu Fisheries Minister happy with fact finding visit to Fiji

Minister Seremaiah and his delegation were met on arrival at the Nausori International Airport by the Vanuatu Charge d'Affairs Emanuel Blessings and the Suva-based CNFC Fleet Manager Qiao Xuetao and his assistant Zhang Shuiku

On Monday, the minister started his official visits to Suva's Princes Wharf to observe offloading activities on the site before he met with his Fijian counterpart, Osea Naiqamu.

FM network to cover all Vanuatu islands

According to RNZI, the new chairman of the VBTC board, Jonethy Jerety, said the broadcaster would launch its website at the same time.

VBTC said Radio Vanuatu's short and medium wave transmissions had reached the entire country over the past two months.
