Natuman invites Chinese investors to Vanuatu

Speaking at the First World Conference on Tourism for Development in Beijing, China yesterday, Mr Natuman emphasised the need for improvement in what Vanuatu already had in terms of tourism and infrastructure.

When expanding on the overview of Vanuatu’s performance in these two sectors, Mr Natuman said people in Vanuatu are mostly living in a subsistence economy in a least developed country scenario, and that sustainable development is not just a policy direction by the government in its 2015-2030 sustainable development plan.

He later proclaimed himself a pastor after encountering unfavorable relationship with the Port Vila Presbyterian Session and formed his own evangelical prayer ministry and resided in different places in Port Vila.

Vanuatu resort reopening after Cyclone Pam

RNZI reports the Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu is one of several key hotels opening again after repairing damage from the devastating cyclone.

Resort Manager Simon Douthett said the closure was difficult as they had to let go of most of the resort's 160 workers.

No budget to send Vanuatu to Festival of Pacific Arts

The festival is now underway in Guam and is the largest cultural event in the region with 27 Pacific countries and territories participating.

Sentence for Vanuatu men who beat a woman angers advocate

RNZI reports the men stripped the woman, groped her, beat her and dragged her across the ground because she refused to marry one of them.

They received a sentence of 200 hours community service and were ordered to pay US$270 each.

Jenny Ligo said the situation was very distressing and shows that men in Vanuatu are still living in the stone age.

Vanuatu rower qualifies for Rio Olympics

RNZI reports the 24 year old only starting competing five years ago and has represented Vanuatu at three senior World Championships.

He missed out on automatic qualification, having finished 13th out of 20 at last months Asia/Oceania Championships in Korea (the top seven qualified directly), but was awarded a place in Brazil by the International Olympic Committee.
