Kiwis in shock as Hansen joins Wallabies before World Cup

In one of the most unlikely coaching developments in recent years, Hansen is helping the Wallabies in an advisory role as they prepare for a warm-up match against France in Paris on Sunday.

Hansen, who led the All Blacks to victory over Australia in the 2015 World Cup final, has agreed to share some of his insights before the Wallabies kick off their campaign against Georgia on September 9.

Michael Hooper left out of Wallabies' World Cup squad

The 125-Test veteran had been eyeing a third World Cup tournament.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that 31-year-old Hooper was told on Wednesday he would not be in the Australian squad to be announced on Thursday evening due to concerns over his calf injury.

Chosen as a co-captain by Jones, the flanker was underwhelming against South Africa in his only Test appearance under the new coach, no thanks to the injury that kept him out of the next three Tests.

Wallaby Carter Gordon set to start against the All Blacks – report

According to The Roar’s Christy Doran, coach Eddie Jones has put his faith in the two-Test Wallaby ahead of the Bledisloe Cup opener at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Looking to turn he Wallabies’ fortunes around after back-to-back defeats, Jones has reportedly made a series of bold selection calls – including a new-look halves duo.

Doran understands that Gordon will start alongside halfback Tate McDermott. This selection, if true, completes an incredible turnaround for McDermott ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Kerevi insists he's not the answer as Wallabies search for a new outside centre

The only problem is, the class act seemingly best equipped to replace Ikitau at outside centre in the two coming Bledisloe Cup matches against the All Blacks doesn’t want to play there.

Samu Kerevi first burst onto the Test scene in 2016 as a dynamic No.13 and reluctant No.12.

Now it’s the opposite, and it looked that way after Kerevi shifted from inside to outside centre after Ikitau was injured while scoring Australia’s opening try in Saturday night’s 34-31 Rugby Championship loss to Argentina.

Wallaby Allan Alaalatoa ‘ready to go’ against South Africa

The tighthead prop missed the Brumbies’ Super Rugby Pacific semi-final loss to the Chiefs last month with a calf injury but the 29-year-old said there were no lingering issues ahead of the Test on Saturday (local time).

The match will be the first under returning Wallabies coach Eddie Jones.

“It’s going really well; I’m in a good place at the moment,” Alaalatoa said from their training base in Johannesburg.

“I’ve come into camp last week and I’ve done all the training so I’ve been ticking all the boxes and if selected I’ll be ready to go on the weekend.”

Wallabies coach Eddie Jones says more NRL stars set to switch to rugby

The Wallabies head coach told Sky Sport’s The Breakdown on Sunday that Australian rugby had further league talent set to switch codes.

In March, Rugby Australia signed Joseph Suaalii from the NRL’s Sydney Roosters for a reported $1.5 million per year, starting at the end of the 2024 league season.

“Yeah, we've got about three or four that are ready to sign mate, big names," Jones said, with a grin.

Valetini, Koroibete, Vunivalu and Nawaqanitawase part of Wallabies squad

Nine Fijians are part of the squad with four in the rehab and train on squad groups.

Jones has named a 34-player squad for the Rugby Championship which also includes Rob Valetini, Marika Koroibete, Suliasi Vunivalu and Mark Nawaqanitawase.

Samu Kerevi is in the rehab group with Langi Gleeson.

The train on squad have the likes of Filipo Daugunu, halfback Issak Fines-Leleiwasa and Serupepeli Uru.

Australia’s first Rugby Championship game is against South Africa at 3.05 am on the 9th of July.

Quade Cooper sets his sights on Wallabies No. 10 jersey

The 35-year-old is hoping to make a second comeback to the national team after rupturing his Achilles against Argentina last August.

While the playmaker did not want to assume he would receive the nod from coach Eddie Jones when the squad is announced on Sunday, he will relish the opportunity in Pretoria if offered.

“I 100 per cent want to wear the No.10 jersey,” Cooper said on Thursday.

Former Wallaby appointed Rugby Australia ceo

Waugh becomes the first Wallaby to occupy the role, having earned 79 caps for the national side.

Since he concluded his professional career with the Waratahs in 2011, Waugh has gone on to build extensive executive and governance experience.

He has been a non-executive director on the Rugby Australia board since July 2018, and he has most recently had a career in banking.

Waugh's Board and governance experience has seen him hold multiple non-executive directorship positions within the hospitality, finance and sporting industries.

Barbarians, World XV make two changes each, Koroibete pulls out

The speedster, who last year won his second John Eales medal as Australia’s best rugby player, finished his second club season in Japan last Saturday with defeat in the final with Robbie Deans’ Saitama Wild Knights.

No exact reason was given as to why Koroibete had to withdraw following his left-wing start in the 15-17 loss to Malcolm Marx’ Kubota Spears in Tokyo, but his place in Hansen’s squad has gone to Kaminieli Rasaku of Bayonne and Fiji 7s. The other addition to the World XV is the retiring Ulster and Ireland back-rower Jordi Murphy.
