Root crops awareness for Vanuatu’s Torba Province

Farmers on Mota Island and West Vanua Lava have been learning about various root crops and how to plant them in trainings conducted by Vanuatu’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The training was facilitated by DARD Root Crop Specialist, Tari Molisale.

Participants also covered topics like Food Security, Genetic Erosion, Soil fertility, Climate change impact, Laziness, Importance of Longest and shortest day in Vanuatu, Cropping calendar (crops for short & long day).

The training also targeted areas like demonstrate & set up planting of yam vine cuttings, root crops breeding /root crops breeding, training & demonstrate taro Fiji breeding, distribution of planting materials like dwarf cassava cuttings (10), Hybrid taro colocasia resistant on taro leaf blight and drought, 15 plastic cups for yam vine cuttings.

More than 50 participants attended the trainings that were conducted in the Torba Province.
