SMART Sistas participate in First Global Robotic Challenge

Members of Vanuatu’s SMART Sistas have left for Dubai to attend the First Global Robotic Challenge.

SMART Sistas, is a community-based organisation that reaches out to communities especially girls, encouraging them to take up technology courses as part of a career pathway into the future.

The SMART Sistas Vanuatu team has been eagerly preparing for the 2019 FGRRC which will be held from 24-27 October 24 – 27, 2019 at the Coca-Cola Arena.

The FIRST Global Challenge theme for 2019 is “Ocean Opportunities”.

Every year millions and tons of wastes generated by human activities are drawn into the ocean or make their way into the world’s oceans.

This negatively affects marine life, which in turns affects global populations.

The Ni-Vanuatu girls have taken up the challenge bringing attention to this critical issue in order to educate the wider community on preservation of wild life and marine resources.

With their participation, the team will experience real life challenges related to cleaning up the world’s oceans.

They hope to create a wider public awareness and give the glimpse of hope in saving our wild life and humanity.

These students are doing much more than just competing in a robotics game ; they are learning that these challenges will only be overcome when people realize that we are all on the same team, and that with technology, we can accomplish things we can only imagine by communicating, cooperating, and working together to apply technology as a tool for positive change in the world.
