Vanuatu’s Lana Molivurae a certified Smart Sista

“Congratulations to Smart Sista, Lana Molivurae!”

Lana Molivurae was recently recruited to join Engineering Business Services’ (EBS) team, who recognised the value of promoting and supporting women in Vanuatu’s IT industry, and now she has achieved her first Information Technology certification.

Lana is involved in the SMART Sistas program whose mission is to “empower girls to pursue educational opportunities in the ICT field and help Vanuatu reach gender equality in ICT.”

Earlier this year, Lana was offered the opportunity to work with EBS to learn more about the IT world including training and IT certification.

“By bringing Lana in, EBS' goal was to provide her with an excellent IT training, which is not always available to all in Vanuatu. Lana has proven to be a real SMART Sista, a fast and dedicated learner and a valuable addition to our team,” said Alexandre Blanchard, EBS General Manager.

The CompTia IT Fundamentals is an internationally recognised entry level certification designed to provide basic IT knowledge to give a better understanding of how IT works. From identifying computer hardware to some basic programing concepts and most importantly learning about protocols and all the inner workings that make the IT world go round, this certification is a first great step to professionalize.

“ICT certifications are great ways for people willing to work in the IT world to get their competences tested and recognised. They can be a good thing to access higher job positions or salary,” said Mr. Blanchard.  Based in Port Vila, created in 2015 by Ni-Vanuatu and French investors, Engineering Business Services offers ICT services and solutions, including IT consulting, trainings and certification, server and website hosting, private cloud services, SMS marketing and automation.

By giving its employees the possibility to pass certifications, EBS is building strong internal capacity that helped them to be recognized by technological leaders such as Cisco, VMware, and Watchguard.  EBS opened the only Pearson Vue testing centre in Vanuatu in 2017. This computer based examination centre allows people in Vanuatu to certify their skills without needing to go to another country.

Lana, assisted by the EBS team, is now marching toward the next step of her certification.
