Vanuatu’s Relvie Poilapa and Marie Toto win international women's award

Two young Vanuatu women leaders have received international awards for their work with the communities.

Relvie Poilapa, who works for World Vision Vanuatu, won the Hanson Mataskelekele award.

Marie Toto, who works for Care International, won the Andy Lynch award.

The women were selected based on their life changing community outreach, their engagement in empowering women, being women role model themselves and standing up for what is right.

The awards are funded by the Australian government to recognise the leadership and active participation of women in Vanuatu society.

They are a joint initiative of the Lynch and Mataskelekele families and the Australian High Commission.

The international recognition award has been part of the celebrations of the lives of two women leaders, Mrs Hanson Mataskelekele and Mrs Andy Lynch who have helped many women in Vanuatu.

The award ceremony was held Wednesday at a morning tea reception hosted by Australian High Commissioner, Jenny Da Rin.

The award ceremony is part of events to commemorate International Women's Day on 8 March annually.

Vanuatu will join other countries globally to celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday.
