Vanuatu is mourning the sudden passing away of actor Mungau Dain of the renowned film ‘Tanna.’
Dain died on the weekend and his body was flown to Tanna island for the funeral.
The cause of his death is unknown at this stage.
In its condolence message shared on Facebook, the Australian High Commission expressed its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mungau Dain, and the people of Yakel village, Tanna and Vanuatu.
“With his amazing performance in Tanna Movie, Dain brought Vanuatu’s beauty and culture to new audiences around the world,” the message read.
‘Tanna’ is a 2015 Australian-Ni-Vanuatu film set on the island of Tanna.
The movie depicts the true story of a couple who decided to marry for love, rather than obey their parents' wishes. The film won the Audience Award Pietro Barzisa at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.
It was selected as the Australian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards, and was nominated for the award in January 2017.
