Vanuatu's PM Salwai meets French Foreign Minister

The Foreign Affairs Minister of France, Jean-Marc Ayrault, met Prime Minister Charlot Salwai in France on January 25, accompanied by Bruno Leingkone, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Matai Seremaiah, Minister of Agriculture.

Ayrault reaffirmed the importance France attaches to this region and in particular to Vanuatu which has maintained a special relationship with France and has very close ties with neighboring New Caledonia.

Jean-Marc Ayrault underscored the importance of small island developing states in climate negotiations, the need for their voices to be heard in these negotiations and for them to be able to take part in the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

He also discussed with his interlocutors the priorities of our bilateral cooperation, notably in the areas of education and French language and culture.

Vanuatu is the only Pacific state that is a member of the International Organization of La Francophonie.
