VTO donates World Tsunami Summit t-shirts to students

The Vanuatu Tourism Office (VTO) has handed over a dozen t-shirts and destination brochures and maps to students and teachers of Central School.

The shirts will be worn during an important Students International “Survival From Disasters” World Tsunami Summit which will take place in Japan at the Wakayama prefecture, next month October.

During the handing over ceremony, VTO Information, Research and Data Manager Sebastien Bador remarked, “Tsunamis as well as all other natural disasters that we face here in Vanuatu, can impact negatively on a tourism destination and with efforts to raise awareness for preparation, undertaken by the Government, organizations, and even schools such as Central School, it is important that together we support such a cause to keep our families, communities and destination safe”.

Mr Bador further added, “The support that the VTO is providing will enhance this awareness through the participation of our young students representing Vanuatu at the summit. We wish them all the best and thank the school for taking the initiative to share Vanuatu’s experience, as well as promote how great and beautiful our Vanuatu is to the world”.

Central School Guidance Counsellor Kalo Dick Mariki, who will be with the students at the Summit said, “This is the 2nd invitation which we’ve received from Japan, and we want to take advantage of the opportunity share about our school’s experience on how natural disasters are being handled here as well as be able to promote our country as a great tourist destination – so thank you VTO for collaborating with us”.

George Willietien, the Deputy Principal for Central School, thanked the VTO for their support on behalf of Central School Council, teachers, and students.
