Remanded incest suspect commits suicide

A middle-aged male incest suspect from Tongariki has been found dead on Saturday morning in Morua, Tongoa, where he allegedly committed suicide.

Daily Post was informed that the suspect was arrested earlier last week in Tongariki and transported by boat to Tongoa where he is understood to be in Police custody.

Very reliable sources from the Island informed Daily Post he had spent the past night in the residence of a Police officer before his body was found the next morning.

There is a holding cell at the Morua Police Post but it is yet unclear why the suspect was not locked up and treated like any other remanded suspect.

Daily Post could not manage to get any official comments from Police regarding the incident over the weekend.

Reports yet to be confirmed by Police say that the suspect was arrested for allegedly committing incest, an offence he did jail term for in the past.

Sources informed that the suspect was supposed to be flown out to Port Vila to appear before the court on the day his body was found near the Morua Police Post on Tongoa.

Later on Saturday, Police officers from Port Vila flew to Tongoa with a coffin for the suspect’s body and escorted his body back to Tongariki by boat yesterday.
