Women told to put differences aside to see change

The message was loud and clear.

“Put all your differences aside so we can make a change and see its impacts.”

The Director of Women’s Affairs, Dorosday Kenneth Watson, echoed the statement as a challenge to women during the launching of the Coalition Fund for Gender Equity in Vanuatu Parliament (CFGEVP).

She added that Vanuatu is in an era of change.

“Our behaviors and attitudes must change to allow us to withstand challenges that are ahead of us today”.

The director also said in order to make these changes, women need to begin the change in oneself.

She admitted that one of the challenges that a lot of people are neglecting is the issue of gender equality.

Mrs Watson stated that the government has already been addressing changes in the past. But women representatives in the national Parliament remains negative.

“Women are questioning why it was always hard to have their voice in the parliament?” she asked.

On the occasion of the launching of the women’s organisation, the Director of Women’s Affairs asked of the women to take the personal challenge to make the first change in themselves.

“A heart which desires positive changes will be able to make changes”, the director said. “A heart that is willing to give and a heart of love will make a change so that developments can prosper”.

Mrs Watson applauded the women who have initiated the group so that positive changes, especially in the lives of women in politics can develop.

In Vanuatu, politics in not always kind with women, “but i believe that what is launched today is initiated with desirable hearts for the good of the women of Vanuatu, and in the eyes of God, it shall be proper”, Watson said.

The main goal of CFGEVP is to support women in politics despite the different political parties that they are affiliated with.

The organisation promotes unity and oneness among women.
