Exciting development for basketball 3 x 3

Having basketball 3x3 in the new build Korman2 as part of the Pacific Mini Games will be exciting, says the technical delegate of Basketball 3x3.

The Technical Delegate for Basketball 3x3, Annie Lafleur, made the comment during a visit to the Van2017 office in Port Vila to assess the preparations towards the Mini Games.

Mrs Lafleur is the Technical Delegate for Basketball 3x3 who came to Vanuatu for four days as directed by the Federation International Basketball Association, and she is also the Development Manager of FIBA Oceania.

“3x3 basketball is a late inclusion in the Mini Games so the purpose was to meet the local organising committee and to see how we can all work together to make the 3x3 basketball event a successful one,” she said.

As part of her agenda in Vanuatu, Mrs Lafleur made a short site visit to the Korman Games Venue, to assess the field of play and equipment to be used during the Games.

“3x3 Basketball will be held in Korman 2 and we are very excited about what the event could look like,” she said. “There’s a lot of excitement in the air about the new stadium and the legacy that will be left once the event is over.”

As construction is still under way at the main Games Venue to meet the completion deadline at the end of October, it is clear that there’s still a lot of work to be done till Korman 2 is completed and she said she is looking forward to seeing it complete.

“With the Games now less than 116 days away, the decision to incorporate this sport was timely.”

Some 10 teams from across the Pacific are now expected to participate in the 3 x 3 format.
