Van2017 signs MOU with Ministry of Internal Affairs

Van2017 has strengthened its partnership with Ministry of Internal Affairs through a Memorandum of Understanding

“The Pacific Mini Games will be taking place here in Port Vila, and as you know this capital city is governed by Port Vila Municipality which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. And it is a privilege for this city, which will be the face of this country. In fact, Port Vila is welcoming people from all over the world, Port Vila is hosting them, and Port Vila is farewelling them as well. So, we are proud and happy to work with Van2017, to make sure that the delivery of the Games is made on time, with all expectations that Port Vila should provide too,” stated Mrs Cherol Ala, Director General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“The Games are a national commitment and Port Vila is to be seen as an active actor for the event, by ensuring that, with all its means and resources, it will contribute to the success of the Games and more importantly to make  athletes feel at home in Port Vila.”

“Having Ministry of Internal Affairs on board is essential  because it governs a range of national institutions which include local authorities in the country, provincial authorities; and also some of the most important key stakeholders that are required in the planning of the Games are Security, Immigration, Land Transport Board and of course Port Vila Municipality.”

Van2017 CEO Clint Flood stated that the organizing committee is working closely with all government ministries, by establishing MOU, in order to provide a better understanding on all activities to be carried out, which is critical and important, given the very limited time frame.

“The Games are not only about Sport in itself, it also involves other sectors, which would contribute to the Legacy Plan, by repainting buildings in town, collecting rubbish and keeping the city clean including a beautification and tree planting program, some of the things that authorities would be be able to look at.” said Flood.

DG Ala and CEO Flood sealed the agreement on Wednesday 12th July 2017 at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in front of First Political advisor of the Ministry, Ms Anthea Toka, Acting Town Clerk PVMC Michelle Jonas, Manager Government Services Van2017 Wilfred Koran, Mesek Kaltapiri  Games Village Coordinator, Ian Baltor PVMC Financial Controller, and representatives from PVMC and Land Transport Association.
