French International Film Festival to be held in Port Vila

France Television in cooperation with Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation (VBTC) will host the French International Film Festival (FIFO) in Port Vila next week.

The Executive Director of France TV, Walles Kotra said the film festival will be very interesting to see and learn about livelihoods and culture of the people of Oceania.

“As part of the International Film Festival Pacific, free screenings will be offered at Chiefs Nakamal in Port Vila every evening starting from Monday 25 February.

The purpose of the festival is to cast the light on Oceania and to celebrate its rich culture and the diversities of its people.

“The documentaries, some of which might be unsettling, astonishing, disturbing and sometimes even frustrating, will take us on an epic adventure as much as on an inner journey” Mr Kotra said.

FIFO plays an economic role in developing the Pacific audio-visual market, a booming market that has now found its audience.

VBTC Chief Executive Officer, Francis Herman said the festival is an important platform for filmmakers to showcase their work and ideologies.

“The local producers can also form new alliances with other producers from around the pacific and beyond as well. It’s also an excellent market place to promote social issues”

He invited the general public in Port Vila and Efate to attend the festival.

“The fact that the film festival is in our own backyard, it offers more Ni Vanuatu, particularly our women and youth to involve themselves in this international event” Mr Herman stated.

More than just a cultural event, the FIFO is a pillar in the development of the Oceania audio-visual industry.

The French International Film Festival will be held from on Monday, 25 February to Thursday. 28 February 2019.
