Vanuatu to benefit from Interplast Health training visit

A visiting health mentoring team will be in Vanuatu next month to provide clinical training and work with local personnel to treat patients.

The Interplast Australia & New Zealand team will be at Port Vila Central Hospital from 2 – 9 September.

The team will include physiotherapist, Linda Fredheim who will provide training to local physiotherapists.

The programme aims to increase the skills of ni-Vanuatu allied health professionals in the rehabilitation of patients following plastic and reconstructive surgery, by supporting a volunteer physiotherapist to spend a week working with staff at the hospital.

During the one-week programme Ms Fredheim will also be running a number of workshops and providing clinical training.

Interplast medical team is funded by the Australian Government and Rotary Clubs in Australia and New Zealand have been visiting Vanuatu since 1985.

The team provides free surgical intervention and training programs to relieve people of disability.

The Port Vila programme will be the 33rd Interplast visit to Vanuatu.

The assistance, which is managed by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, fills specific gaps in local medical services and provides capacity building to local medical staff.
