Vanuatu President calls on MPs to work together

Vanuatu Head of State, Pastor Tallis Obed Moses, has called on parliamentarians to work together in a common direction to create a stable environment for the country’s development to persevere in today’s challenging times.

President Moses made the appeal in his official address before opening the second ordinary session of Parliament today.

"The MPs that serve in Parliament and those in government institutions have great responsibilities.

He also advised MPs to always put God first in everyday life.

"While drawing your attention to both houses, let me also remind you all that both houses I am referring to have equal responsibilities for the nation and people but God is supreme in all final decisions according to His will," the Head of State President Tallis Obed Moses told parliament.

"We are faced today with so many challenges as we do not live in isolation but being part of the global village which we are part of," President Moses reminded the MPs.

He told them that the world today is full of problems and as leaders and builders of the nation, the MPs must always make sure that Vanuatu only allows good developments to enter the country.

He complimented the government and the MPs for many good developments that have been achieved over the years.

On the other issue of the Ambae evacuation, the president congratulated the government, donor countries, business houses and people who have helped the people of Ambae during the volcano disaster.

“The help from government, local community and international community wan tremendous to Ambae people living in Maewo and Santo

“I was happy with the decision of the Council of Ministers to send an assessment team to Ambae to assess the situation on the island to prepare for people to return to the island.

Twelve government bills will be debated in this session and it includes the appropriation bill, the government's 2019 budget of 29 billion vatu.
