Van2017 seeks 2,000 volunteers for Pacific Mini Games

The office of Van2017 needs 2,000 volunteers from communities around Vanuatu for the tenth Pacific Mini Games in December.

The number of volunteers has been confirmed by Government Services representative and Team Villages Manager, Wilfred Koran.

About 3000 forms have been distributed but only 532 was filled and dropped in at the designated drop box at Digicel, Air Vanuatu, Public Service Commission, Vasanoc and Van2017 office.

Mr Koran said they have launched 3,000 forms but they need 2,000 volunteers to assist the athletes, VIPs and the public during the Games.

“We need everyone, who is interested to fill in the forms and drop them at the designated drop box locations,” he said.

The Van2017 team has also gone on the Van2017 Facebook Page to put out a notice to those who have filled in the forms to hand them in as soon as possible.

Mr Koran said time is running out and applications need to be processed soon.

He acknowledged those who have dropped in their forms off at all designated drop box locations.

“We are still waiting for the 1,400 volunteers, who are out there to submit their forms now. Team Leaders will start being recruited next month and their training will take place as of end of October,” he said.

Van2017 is using its Facebook page to appeal to every citizen of Vanuatu to work together to make the games a success.

“Let us all join hands together to make Van2017 the most memorable event our nation has ever seen. Let us all showcase our friendly smiles, our culture, our respect and most of all our love to our neighbouring Pacific islands countries’ athletes and delegates, tourists and families and show them why we were voted the happiest place on earth,” it said.

The Pacific Mini Games will be hosted in Port Villa from December 4-15.

Twenty four countries are expected to participate in the 14 sports featured for the Mini Games.
