Vanuatu is the first country to welcome VSA volunteers In 15 months

Mini Games Team Leader “heads-up” for the Games

All Team Leaders (TLs) assigned to the various Games (Functional Areas) FAs - Venues, Villages, Transport, Technology, Medics, Sport, Accreditation, Pacific Games Association, Security, Games Venues and Services, Marketing which covers VIP/Protocol, Ticketing and Sponsor Activation, and Media – were presented an overview on how their respective FAs interface with each other, with regards spaces to be occupied and especially the main services to be provided which are Volunteers, Catering, Technology and Transport.

Successful Games to derive from volunteers’ input

Having volunteers being part of the workforce is vital for the delivery of services during the Games.

This week, Van2017 Volunteer Team has begun its Team Leaders Orientation program with its 70 chosen Team Leaders, who will be working ‘hands on’ to direct and motivate their volunteers.

Van2017 CEO Clint Flood says the Volunteer Team Leader is an integral part in the success of a team project, and his or her role is to help streamline communication and provide structure and direction in fulfilling expectations for volunteers. 

Recruitment process for Van2017 Team Leaders under way

The process began last week with handpicked Central School teachers, among other selected institutions, NGOS and the general public.

Those selected will then be shortlisted and finally chosen to be placed in various functional areas to oversee the management of services to be provided during the Games.

Team Leaders will liaise with the Van2017 coordinating team in each sector to coordinate a group of volunteers in their respective service areas and fields of play.

Van2017 seeks 2,000 volunteers for Pacific Mini Games

The number of volunteers has been confirmed by Government Services representative and Team Villages Manager, Wilfred Koran.

About 3000 forms have been distributed but only 532 was filled and dropped in at the designated drop box at Digicel, Air Vanuatu, Public Service Commission, Vasanoc and Van2017 office.

Mr Koran said they have launched 3,000 forms but they need 2,000 volunteers to assist the athletes, VIPs and the public during the Games.

“We need everyone, who is interested to fill in the forms and drop them at the designated drop box locations,” he said.
