3 shortlisted for post of Vanuatu Police Commissioner

Three applicants, who were shortlisted for the post of the Vanuatu Police Commissioner, have been interviewed by the selection panel.

All three are ni-vans and are active and senior members of the Vanuatu Police Force (VPF).

They include the only female applicant, Chief Inspector Clera Seth, who is currently the officer in-charge of the General Duties of the VPF.

Two other candidates are the acting police commissioner, Robson Iavro and the VPF’s legal officer, Albert Nalbini.

According to police sources, the trio were interviewed yesterday at VPF headquarters at Vansec House.

Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Api Jack Marikembo said the panel is finalizing the score cards from the interview and the selected candidate’s name will be forwarded to the Minister responsible for police, which is the Minister for Internal Affairs before recommending his appointment to the Head of State who signs the instruments for the appointment.

The three were shortlisted from eight applicants, including a foreign national, who were vying for the top police post.

Mr Marikembo has said the new police commissioner will be announced on Wednesday next week.

Vanuatu has been without a police commissioner since 2014 when Arthur Caulton was sacked by the President.

Since then, five acting commissioners were appointed to take care of the affairs of the police force.
