96% street lights repaired

Ninety-six percent of street lights in Port Vila, have been repaired by the UNELCO Vanuatu, providing safety for people walking throughout Port vila at night.

“The day goes unnoticed but when the sun goes down, and the night approaches, people walking at night fear for their safety. We are taking care of this by repairing 96% of all street lights in Port-vila,” says a UNELCO Spokesperson.

In total, public lighting throughout the Port Vila city, represents more than 700 lighting points.

The repair work by UNELCO Vanuatu on lighting points in Port Vila follows extensive damage caused to lighting points by the recent Cyclone Pam, that devastated Port Vila crippling lighting and communication services. But the UNELCO Vanuatu, assisted by UNLCO sister companies in New Caledonia and Tahiti worked around the clock to restore electricity services.

The UNELCO Vanuatu is putting every efforts into repairing the street lights at the remainder of the lighting points to complete 100% of the entire 700 lighting points throughout Port Vila.
